For better or worse, the new Facebook Timeline layout has now launched. As of March 30th everyone has been switched over to the new design. Now, we already know that many brands and individuals are not happy about the changes. However to make things even more complicated, these change also comes with a whole new set of rules. You see Facebook loves rules! So, as profiles and brand pages have now switched over we thought we would review the Zuckerberg checklist.
New Guidelines Include:
- You must have copyright or permission to use any cover image
- Cover image size is 852px X 315px
- No Pricing is allowed or calls to action in the cover image section
- Incentives for “liking or sharing” your cover image is not allowed
- No physical address, email or telephone number is allowed in the image
- All contact information should be listed in the “About” area only
- You can no longer set the landing page, you only have one default page
- Only 4 tabs exist so use them to your advantage, BTW the photos tab is locked
- You now have the ability to private message your customers or fans, its behind the scenes customer service
- The new Pin feature allows you to Pin important information to the top of your page for 7 days
- Vanity URL limits have been removed, you do not have to wait to get to 25 fans
As brands and users navigate through these changes one thing is clear, it is now more challenging to connect with your fans on Facebook. However, the evolution into the cover image/timeline age is really an exciting one with unlimited marketing possibilities.
