Facebook has announced the redesign of its News Feed, and as it seems there are indeed many things that will change. The web experience will be identical to the mobile version of Facebook. Everything gets bigger, the pictures look more attractive than ever and there are now 7 different news feeds so you can choose which one you prefer. Let’s take a look at what each change means:

 

Facebook’s new slogan is “hello bright, beautiful stories” and this is exactly what you feel with a first look on the new News Feed.

  • Larger pictures: Pictures are now placed in the center since they understand the difference between sharing a status and sharing a picture. Their larger size makes them even more attractive, with vibrant visuals that will eventually turn Facebook into a more Pinterest-like site, full of pictures. And speaking of Pinterest, Facebook has announced that Pinterest’s app will allow for more and larger images showing up.
  • No more same posts: If more than one friends of you share the same link, you will only see the link once on your News Feed with the pictures of your friends that shared it on the left side.
  • Same look everywhere: Instead of copying the web interface into their mobile version, they decided to do the opposite and transfer the best parts of Facebook’s app into their website. Now you will notice the same look on your PC, your smartphone and your tablet.
  • 7 different feeds: No more crowded News Feed with all your friends and interests. From now on, feeds are divided into: most recent, close friends, music, photos, games and following. Thus, you are choosing what to view from your account in a more organized way. What’s more, the “following” option allows you to display everything from the pages and the public figures you liked, in a chronological order.

To sum up: Facebook is trying to create a new feel for its News Feed which we need to get used sooner or later. The changes are significant and it’s interesting how this will affect the visibility of brands. We can tell that their focus is on mobile devices, while the larger images can be useful for advertising purposes. There are still many things to see in action before reaching to a conclusion on whether the new News Feeds will be more or less useful for marketing purposes.
